Holiday DIY Series: Simple decorative vase

Hey guys! I hope everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving eating, and spending time with loved ones. I know I did! 🙂

The day after Thanksgiving is when I always start decorating my apartment for Christmas. This year I decided to be more hands on instead of going out and buying decorations. I find that it says money, and you can make it more personalized to your liking. The possibilities are endless! Today I will be showing you how to create this very easy DIY vase using things you most likely have in your house already!

For this project you will need:

  • A jar (preferably narrow) I used an old olives jar.
  • Any color paint. I’m using Craft Smart gloss acrylic paint in white.
  • Hot glue gun or any type of glue with a strong bond. I’m using super glue.
  • Floral of your choice. I’m using Poinsettias in the spirit of Christmas.
  • Newspaper or paper towel.
  • Ribbon of your choosing. I’m using some I got at the Target Dollarspot.
  • Any little extras you would like to add i.e stickers, more ribbon, rhinestone etc.

Step 1: Remove the label. Have the jar sit in hot water for about 15 mins. It should be able to easily peel off by then, if not, repeat the process again. Once that is done make sure you wash out your jar thoroughly with warm soapy water.

Your jar should look like this.

Step 2: Pour a generous amount of paint (varies on size of jar) in your jar. Tilt it at a downward angle and turn it slowly. Make sure that the paint is covering all areas inside the jar. Once the jar is completely covered, stand it upside down on the newspaper and let gravity do it’s thing. This brings all the extra paint back out on the paper. Let your jar dry.

Tip: Turn the jar slowly to avoid uncovered spaces.

Step 3: Time to decorate! You can pretty much do whatever you like for this part. I decided to use the polka dot ribbon.

Measure out the amount of ribbon you need to wrap around the neck of the jar. Then use your glue to secure it in place.  To add a little more glam to it, I added a bow charm that I had from a broken charm bracelet. This is the end result.

I am so happy with how this turned out! This will stay on top of my vanity for a while 🙂 The only thing I had to buy for this project was the flowers, and they were only $1.00 from Deals. (Check out what else I got for $1.00 in my last post)

I would love to see how you guys decorate your vases. On Instagram use #heartdreenieholidaydiy and don’t forget to follow me on there as well!

Huge Deals and Target dollar spot haul!

Happy Thanksgiving Eve everyone! I know most of you are either getting everything together for the big day tomorrow, or travelling to visit family. I have some prepping to do myself, but I wanted to share this awesome haul with you all!

Some of you may be familiar with the store Deals, It is apart of the Dollartree chain. I’ve never been there so I can’t really say, but I assume they have the same items. If you go to Dollartree, please leave a comment below and let me know what kind of things they have there.

Isn’t this gingerbread mailbox just the cutest?! I’m not sure what I will use it for. I may just place it on my desk or vanity.

I have an obsession with cups and mugs, especially novelty ones! I had such a hard time deciding, but I did choose this reindeer travel mug because I love the colors. What’s also cool about this is that you take out the reindeer design paper and add your own if you wish. That way you can use it all year ’round! This cup is so cute though, I wouldn’t mind using the reindeer design after Christmas!

I am so happy I picked this up. This is a LED candle that changes color when it’s on! How cool is that!

I already had a kitchen potholder set from last year, but I could not pass these up, so freakin cute!

I was surprised to see these sticker sheets, I had to get every set!

I went to Target to pretty much raid their dollar section LOL. I  was so happy to see they still had some holiday stationary left! I went a little crazy…just a little.

I’ve seen these pens and pencils plenty of times all over the web. I was super excited to finally get my hands on some myself. The colors are so pretty, and I love stripes and polka dots!

This card set was only $3 for 16 (4 different designs) with envelopes included. These would be cool to include in any RAKs I send out during the holiday.

More stickers! I love Target for their sticker books. They make my planner look so pretty, and it makes me want to look into my planner everyday.

I have the fall ribbon set, so I decided to pick up a couple of Christmas designs for some upcoming DIY projects (stay tuned for that!)

Eeeeek! Holiday notepads, sticky notes, and flags! There were more designs, but these were the ones I liked most, especially Hello Kitty! 🙂

This mini stamp set was only $3!

So overall I think I am set for this holiday, but I would still like to take a look into Michaels to see what goodies I can find there. Right now I am in search for some holiday theme washi tape. If you know of any, please let me know in the comments below!

Small Shopping Haul {H&M and Uniqlo} + 20 % OFF COUPON CODE

Happy Friday!

It seems like Winter is fast approaching here in New York, and I hate it honestly. There’s nothing I can do, so I might as well embrace it, right? I always love H&M accessories, especially in the Fall. I decided to stop in there last week just to take a look around. Of course I ended up buying a little something.

wpid-20141119_115603.jpgI’m glad that I got these when I did because the weather has dropped so low in the past few days.

Now until November 30th you can get 20% off your entire purchase of $60 or more at H&M stores and online! Simply show the photo below to a cashier in store or use code 2728 at online checkout.

I was browsing the Uniqlo site last week as well because I heard that they were having a sale on their Ultra Light Down coats. It was no surprise that they were all sold out. I did find this awesome bag though 🙂

Keith Haring is one of my favorite artists. Even if you don’t know him by name, I’m pretty sure you know his design. I fell in love with this bag as soon as I saw it, and it was on sale! 🙂

We call it SPRZ NY…a launching pad for products unlike any you have seen before, and for mind-blowing innovations in pop culture. The project centers on our 5th Avenue NYC flagship store, and will expand into Uniqlo stores everywhere, inspiring and surprising New York and the world.

The bag is very roomy. It fits all of my essentials, and then some. This will most likely be my everyday work bag for now.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

How I became a Planner Addict + A look into my planner!

A couple of years ago, I bought a planner, but hardly used it. It wasn’t until this past July that I decided it was time for a change. I was tired of unorganized thoughts, missed deadlines, and waiting to the very last-minute to do things. Ok, I still do that lol but, I have more control of it now than I did before.

The planner I have is just a regular planner I got from Target for about Eight dollars. When I first bought it, it was pretty standard with minimal designs. That’s all good, but I am a very creative person, and I knew that in order to actually use this planner, I would have to personalize it to my liking. One day I decided to go on YouTube to see if there were any videos on decorating planners, and to my surprise, thousands of videos for my viewing pleasure!

wpid-20141112_110126.jpg wpid-20141112_110416.jpg wpid-20141112_110443.jpg

I got so many great ideas and tips on how to decorate my planner. The photo on the left is actually the inside cover. I used a plastic cover from a notebook I wasn’t using anymore to create a dashboard with an opening flap (middle picture). The picture on the right is another dashboard. I simply covered up the front page of the planner with scrapbook paper. This also has an inside flap that opens.

Being brand new to the planning world, I had no idea that there were so many options out there. Filofax, Lily Pulitzer, Kate Spade, Erin Condren just to name a few. I’ve watched enough videos to know which planner I will most likely buy in the future. That’s to be talked about in a later post. 🙂 For now, I will show you how my layout for November looks, and my weekly layout for Nov 17-23.

My November layout is pretty simple. I’m still experimenting with washi tapes, I definitely want more. I couldn’t wait to use the stickers. They are so cute for Thanksgiving and fall. I got them from the Target dollar spot. Compared to previous months, I can see that I’m getting more into decorating, and the more I decorate, the more I get motivated to do the things I need to do. I know I’m not the only one who feels like that! LOL

This is how my week is looking so far. I decided to add the weather forecast, and I think I will keep doing it like this. I know there are weather stickers out there, but I am fine with drawing.

Having my planner has made me become so much more organized. I really can’t see my life without one now. Decorating is so much fun as well. It has opened up a whole new world to me, and a new hobby. I still enjoy watching Youtube videos on planners just to get more inspiration. I’ve joined planner groups on Facebook, I recently participated in my first RAK, and it was awesome! (If you don’t know what RAK means, it means Random Act of Kindness. I will talk about this in a later post) Being in a community that enjoys the same things is always a great feeling. I feel like I’ve found where I belong.

Until next time

Cute Halloween Stationary

No the title isn’t wrong, and yes I know Halloween was two weeks ago LOL but I couldn’t resist sharing this with my fellow Planner Addicts. I came across this site called The Sweet Pea Post when searching for an affordable subscription service just for paper crafts. For $4.79 (S+H included) you get an envelope of goodies like washi samples, sticky notes, stickers etc.

I was so excited when my first envelope arrived!

Everything is so cute! I love the black chalkboard stickers 🙂

I love the way she wrapped these stickers!

If you are interested in getting a subscription, the deadline for signing up is always the 7th of each month to receive the current months envelope. Envelopes get sent out on the 11th. If you miss the deadline when signing up, your first subscription letter will be for the following month. I think it’s an awesome little something to get in your mailbox each month.

In my next post I will finally show my planner, the layout, and how I use it from day to day. Can’t wait!
